Ranger
The web just got a lot better for screen readers.
Ranger rides along with your screen reader. Handling captchas, describing images without descriptions, and a growing list of other spots on the web that weren't built with screen readers in mind.
Free · works with NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver
Same site. Two very different experiences.
For sighted users the whole page is right there - they go where they want. For screen-reader users, every captcha and every image with no description turns the same page into a wall.
For sighted users
The whole page is in front of them. They browse, add things to the cart, check out, repeat.
For screen-reader users
Same site, but it becomes a maze. They take detours and hit walls — and they leave with items still in the cart, never having made it to checkout.
Same maze. Way out.
Ranger doesn't hover. It stays out of the way until it sees trouble — then it comes in, clears the path, and disappears again.
How Ranger works
Ranger sits next to your screen reader (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver — whatever you already use) and watches every page along with you. It doesn't replace your screen reader. It backs it up.
Solves captchas
Ranger handles the most common captcha today. More coming as we speak.
Describes images that aren't labeled
When an image has no alt text or a bad one, hit the shortcut and Ranger reads what the picture actually shows.
One shortcut handles both
Same key wakes Ranger up wherever you are on the page.
